Kidz in The Sack

We apologize first for the use of the letter 'z' to pluralize the word 'kids'. When one lives in a cul de sac, there are so few opportunities to be hip.

***
There are about fifteen children living in The Sack. About a quarter are still toddlers, with the rest ranging in age from five to thirteen. They also vary in race and cultural background.

It is a joy to see them interact so well.

***
The Sack is a unique vantage point to observe childhood development. Mrs. Wonders and I have watched with fondness and amusement, as their physical, social and intellectual skills grow.

Granted, some kidz are doing the childhood development thing better than others.

Most of The Sack kidz, however, seem destined for some degree of success in life. Certainly, there are a few that will have their work cut out for them.

This is the nature of life.

If there is one thing that Oscar and I will agree on, it is this: it is good practice to maintain positive relations with kidz in The Sack.

This view is not just built on principle. There are also some very practical reasons.

***
When we are old and infirm, we may require the services of these children.

We may be reliant on them to renew our supplies of ale and other drink. Possibly, we may need them to pick up our prescriptions for medical marijuana and other necessities of old age.

A "Mean Old Mr. Wonders" or an "Oscar the Grouch" is unlikely to receive such humanitarian aid.

***
Good relations are even more important with the potential ne'r-do-wells among kidz in The Sack. Some good humour and politeness now, may buy exemptions from stabbings and thievery later.

***
Oscar says there is one other good reason for staying on their good sides. "When I fall down and cannot get up, he says with great seriousness, there will be someone here to help me."
